Special Weather Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
December 25, 2024 - 2:07am
Expires:
December 25, 2024 - 9:00am
Description:
We continue to see observations generally sitting between 1-2 mile
visibility with a few pockets of 1/2 mile or lower across a large
portion of central and western Minnesota this morning. This fog is
expected to continue even as we get into the daylight hours, with
overcast skies much like yesterday not allowing the sun to work in
burning off the fog. The main difference with yesterday is strong
surface winds, bringing marginally drier air from the south where
there is less of a snowpack. The duration of fog is still tricky
to predict as it may not be until later on Thursday when a bit of
light rain is expected to begin that finally starts eating into
the thicker banks of fog. For now, especially for those in western
Minnesota, expect patchy fog to linger for much of the day. Give
yourself extra time to reach your destination, use low beam
headlights, and give extra space to the vehicles in front of you.
