Description:
* WHAT...For the Wind Advisory, east winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts
40-50 mph expected. The strongest winds will be located along and
west of east-to-west oriented gaps in the local terrain. For the
Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 10-20
degrees expected. For the Freeze Watch, widespread sub-freezing
temperatures 14 to 26 degrees possible.
* WHERE...Eastern Cochise County below 5000 feet, Upper Gila River
Valley, and Upper San Pedro River Valley.
* WHEN...For the Wind Advisory, from 10 PM this evening to 10 PM MST
Wednesday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 2 AM to 10 AM MST
Wednesday. For the Freeze Watch, from 10 PM MST Wednesday evening
through 10 AM MST Thursday morning and again from 10 PM MST
Thursday evening through 10 AM MST Friday morning.
* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured outdoor objects.
Tree limbs could be blown down. Localized blowing dust may reduce
visibility especially near and west of the Willcox Playa.
Reductions in visibility will also be possible with blowing snow,
especially Wednesday morning. Frost and freeze conditions could
kill crops and sensitive vegetation and possibly damage
unprotected outdoor plumbing. Wind chill values can lead to
hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Frostbite and hypothermia
will occur with long-term exposure to these temperatures.
Instruction:
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
Secure outdoor objects.
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.
