Description:
* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 12
inches, with amounts of 14 inches possible in isolated spots if
heavy banding sets up in this area. Winds gusting as high as 40
mph tonight.Current snowfall accumulations range between 4 to 8
inches across the Alleghenies with an addition 3 to 7 inches of
snow expected through tonight. A light glaze of ice is possible.
* WHERE...In Maryland, Extreme Western Allegany and Garrett
Counties. In West Virginia, Western Grant and Western Mineral
Counties.
* WHEN...Until 6 AM EST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Untreated and unplowed roads may become impassable.
During the times of heaviest snowfall, even primary roads may be
impassable. It is highly recommended to postpone non-essential
travel.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There will be a break this morning with
intermittent light snow and possible sleet or freezing drizzle. A
second round of snow is likely this afternoon and evening before
tapering to snow showers tonight. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches
per hour are possible with additional bands of snow later today.
Instruction:
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
