A winter storm is targeting portions of the lower Midwest between Saturday night and Monday evening, bringing travel impacts directly to portions of central and southeast Illinois. * WHAT...Heavy snow of at least 6 inches is likely (greater than 60% chance). Additionally, a narrow band of accumulating flat ice of at least one tenth of an of an inch is possible (greater than 40% chance). Blustery north winds will occasionally gust between 20-30 mph, potentially leading to blowing and drifting snow across East-West highways, as well as sporadic power outages. * WHERE...Heavy snow across portions of central, east central, southeast, and west central Illinois. Ice accumulations confined to areas along and south of Interstate 70. * WHEN...From late Saturday night through Monday morning. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.
