...ACTIVE WINTRY WEATHER IN THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE... .For the Haines Highway, rain, mixing with snow at times, and freezing rain has been observed along the highway this evening. With forecasted steady temperatures near 32 degrees in the upper portions of the Valley, no big changes are expected in the weather overnight. So the risk of freezing rain and icy surfaces will continue. For the Klondike Highway, the next front will push moisture northward. Lower elevations may start off as a rain/snow mix before quickly switching to all rain. Cold air looks remain in place at the higher elevations where mainly snow is expected. * WHAT...Freezing rain. Additional ice accumulations of up to one quarter of an inch. * WHERE...Haines Highway, mainly north of 20 mile. * WHEN...Until 6 AM AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Rain, mixing with snow at times, falling on already icy surfaces and/or hard pack snow will remain slick, even at above freezing temperatures.
