Expected
Effective:
December 22, 2024 - 8:26pm
Expires:
December 23, 2024 - 5:00am
Description:
...ACTIVE WINTRY WEATHER IN THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE...
.For the Haines Highway, rain, mixing with snow at times, and
freezing rain has been observed along the highway this evening.
With forecasted steady temperatures near 32 degrees in the upper
portions of the Valley, no big changes are expected in the weather
overnight. So the risk of freezing rain and icy surfaces will
continue. For the Klondike Highway, the next front will push
moisture northward. Lower elevations may start off as a rain/snow
mix before quickly switching to all rain. Cold air looks remain
in place at the higher elevations where mainly snow is expected.
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 10
inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
* WHERE...Klondike Highway.
* WHEN...From 6 AM Monday to 6 AM AKST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A rain/snow mix is possible for Skagway
early Monday morning but mainly rain is expected by around 6AM.
Cold air in place would support mainly snow at the higher
elevations along the highway. Heaviest snow rates are expected
Monday morning into midday and again Monday night, lighter
rates are likely Monday afternoon into Monday evening.
