Description:
...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL CONTINUES INTO MONDAY... A strong
low pressure system is currently tracking northward towards the
panhandle, with snow transitioning to rain across much of the
southern panhandle through Sunday night. For the northern and
central Alaska Panhandle, drier air and a bit of a later start to
the heavier snowfall is expected. As a result, have lowered storm
total snowfall amounts. Current forecast snowfall accumulations
within the Winter Storm Warnings are between 4 to 8 inches, with
locally higher amounts expected through Monday afternoon. For
communities in Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm
Warnings south of the Icy Strait Corridor, up to two additional
inches of snow possible through Monday morning.
Snow showers will then continue behind this system with widely
variable accumulations through the rest of the week.
* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two
inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE...City and Borough of Sitka.
* WHEN...Until 7 AM AKDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery conditions. The hazardous
conditions could impact the morning commute.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow expected to redevelop after midnight
and continue into early Monday morning.
