...HIT OR MISS SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUE THROUGH MID WEEK... .The Winter Weather Advisories have been expanded in area and extended in time through Thursday morning as scattered to numerous bands snow showers are expected to continually push into the panhandle through the late week. Another organized band is likely to push through the area late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Snowfall accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected through Thursday, however accumulations will be limited during the daytime due to warmer temperatures as we move into late March. In addition, snowfall accumulations will be widely variable across the advisory areas due to the hit or miss nature of the showers, however rates as high as 1 inch per hour will be possible within any heavier showers that repeatedly move over the same location. Advisories could be upgraded to short-fuse Winter Storm Warnings if heavier snow showers continue over the same area. * WHAT...Snow showers expected. Average snow accumulations of 4 inches every 12 hours. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches. Visibilities reduced to 1 mile or less. * WHERE...Gustavus, Juneau, Sitka. * WHEN...Until 10 AM AKDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult and is discouraged. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An organized band of snow showers is moving across the panhandle this afternoon. Another heavier band of snow will move through late Tuesday night into Wednesday. Due to the showery nature of the snow, accumulations will be highly variable with periods of melting in sunny breaks. Snow showers are expected to then continue through at least Thursday morning.
