...ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW EXPECTED FOR THE PANHANDLE MONDAY...
.A weak open low is located over Baranof Island as of 330AM AKDT,
with a heavier band of snow showers moving northward towards the
Icy Strait Corridor communities. Minor forecast update expanding
to Juneau and Gustavus and increasing forecast snowfall with the
wave of showers slowing a bit based on satellite data. Snow
showers may bring visibility down to less then a mile at times,
potentially impacting the morning commute. Localized higher
snowfall rates will remain possible within heavier showers, with
most accumulations happening through Monday morning.
* WHAT...Snow. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches.
Visibility reduced to 1 mile or less.
* WHERE...City and Borough of Juneau and Gustavus
* WHEN...Until 10 AM AKDT this morning.
* IMPACTS...Travel by land, air, and sea could be impacted. This
could impact the morning commute.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A heavier band of snow is moving northward
towards the Icy Strait corridor and Juneau area with snowfall
rates up to half an inch per hour. Snow showers will continue
through late Monday morning. Snowfall accumulations will be
variable across the area due to the hit or miss nature of these
showers.
